We are excited to announce that the Upper School is receiving a generous donation of 20 iPad computers as part of the Karen Fraction Hamilton Literacy Program. This contribution is being made by the Hamilton family (Lawrence, 6th grade; Lauren, Country Day graduating class of 2007; and their father, Lawrence W. Hamilton) on behalf of their late mother and wife, Karen Fraction Hamilton.
As many of you know, Mrs. Hamilton was a long time Country Day parent and volunteer who sadly lost her battle with breast cancer three years ago. As a successful Broadway performer and accomplished movie and TV actress, education was always a top priority for her. She was one of the top two graduates of her high school graduating class and completed her college degree at Adelphi University in New York with highest honors.
In December, 2008, following Mrs. Hamilton’s death, the Hamilton family established The Karen Fraction Hamilton Literacy Program to honor Mrs. Hamilton’s long term involvement with Country Day and her passion for literacy. The program has provided hardware and software technology tools to develop literacy skills with Country Day students in English, Spanish and Chinese. This additional donation will provide a cutting edge, three tier technology platform, including an iPod learning center, an iPad learning center and a laptop/desktop learning center.
On behalf of the entire Country Day community, I would like to express our sincerest gratitude to the Hamilton family. Mrs. Hamilton’s positive impact on our Country Day students continues through her legacy today.
