International Thespians Society

The newly chartered International Thespian Society Junior Troupe 89239 swept the awards at The Florida Junior State Thespian competition in Melbourne, Florida this weekend. All six CDS students who competed at District competition in December qualified to compete at State. Four students accepted the invitation to compete at the State level. Seventh grade student, Sofia M (7th gr.), Zoe N (6th gr.), and Carly J and Angela C (8th gr.) attended the two-day event among the top 3,500 middle school students competing in both performing and technical theatre events.

Thesp_stateSofia and Zoe received the second top ranking of “Excellent” for their duet musical Sisters from White Christmas. In addition, Zoe picked up an “Excellent” for her monologue from You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown. Angela claimed the top ranking of “Superior” for her solo musical Don’t Cry For Me, Argentina from Evita and Carly claimed a “Superior” for her Juliet soliloquy monologue from Romeo and Juliet. “This is an unprecedented showing for a first-timer troupe,” claimed Ms. Rios, “but completely expected! These students worked through the unknown and boldly stepped out to compete among veteran schools with a long history of thespian competition and came out shining. They took the feedback and notes from their individual adjudication at the district level and worked to improve their performance at State and that’s exactly what they did! There is a lot of artistic talent here at Country Day and these students have started something very exciting and laid the foundation of excellence for all students to emulate. We are so proud of them!”

Thespians is open to all middle school students interested in learning more about the performing and non-performing aspects of theatre. Troupe 89239 members serve as troupe officers and run the meetings and come together weekly to learn more, play games, fund-raise and socialize. They attend local performances of both amateur and professional productions and support each other in their artistic endeavors. Please contact Ms. Rios nrios@countydaylargo.com to learn more.
